Saying the township has been remiss and tardy in not developing an emergency plan for Chadds Ford, Supervisors' Vice Chairman George Thorpe announced the hiring of roadmaster Joe Barakat to work on the project. The announcement came during last week's board of supervisors meeting. Thorpe said Barakat would be paid $4,000 to complete an "arduous, boring and difficult task." "At least we don't have to start from scratch," Thorpe said after the meeting. Barakat will work from a format developed by Delaware County. Supervisors chose Barakat for the job, Thorpe said, because he knows the township and the roads and has been on the Emergency Preparedness Committee. Barakat said the job would take about four months to complete. Comprehensive Plan Also last week, supervisors took another step to bring about an update in the township's comprehensive plan by appointing residents to the Comprehensive Plan Taskforce. Appointed were Ed Wandersee, representing the Zoning Hearing Board and Gary Sharp from the Historic and Architecture Review Board. Also appointed was Bob Hobbs as member at large. The three join the five members of the Planning Commission and Lois Saunders of the Open Space Committee. Bill Taylor, planning commission chairman, said the supervisors must still to hire a consultant for the project. The comprehensive plan was last updated 34 years ago, in May 1973.
Sewer Supervisors agreed to guarantee a possible loan for the township sewer authority up to $3.2 million dollars. The authority has not applied for such a loan, said authority member Keith Klaver, but it is a possibility. Klaver said they authority would rather go for a $1.6 million dollar loan from Pennvest, but project costs must still be determined. According to the ordinance signed by the supervisors, those projects collectively called the "2007 Project" consist of acquiring the Turner's Mill wastewater treatment facility from Toll Bros. Inc, installing sewer lines for the village area of the township and make other improvements to the sewer system. Money would also go toward interest rates during construction and the costs of the participation note. |
