SUPERINTENDENT SALARY COMPARISONS

Partners in Education, a group formed to support sensible school programs and school board candidates throughout the Unionville-Chadds Ford School District, has assembled a list of Superintendent salaries of both neighboring and similar type school districts to Unionville-Chadds Ford.  This is designed as a reasonable approach for those in the community to reflect on the issue of “fair compensation” for the position of U-CF Superintendent.  The data for this table is readily available for the 2007-2008 school year across all of these districts and is from the PA Department of Education.  Additional information is also available without resorting to “Right to Know” requests that get into the details of individual contracts.  The benefits range from contract to contract but include such items as houses, cars, and health benefits, along with other types of after-contract compensation.  The below comparisons are solely regarding salary compensation and make no statement on the performance of the Superintendents who represent these districts:

Gregg Lindner, School Board member representing Region “C” (Chadds Ford & Pennsbury Townships) stated that “as a person that runs the day to day operations and research efforts of a 60-70 million dollar business, it is appropriate to compare employees within their job class and not draw conclusions across a myriad of different types of public servants.  While all communities are struggling with costs and trying to hold firm on expenditures, the one place that I am not interested in looking for savings is by having a bargain as the leader of our school district.  The documents that were previously passed out after the last board meeting only generated confusion”.  Mr. Lindner can be reached at glindner.ucfsd@verizon.net
