PETER JESSON: REMARKS AT SUPERVISORS MEETING 2005

My name is Peter Jesson.   I live at 36 Atwater Road

Even though our property will no longer be sub dividable, under the proposed ordinance, I wholeheartedly support its passage, and feel that it long overdue.

What people, who speak about individual property rights fail to address, are the property rights of the many who see their property values diminished by unrestricted speculative development.

The proposed ordinance will help preserve property values in the long-term

Sub-division has been occurring with sensitivity to the natural beauty of our road for the whole of the thirty years we have owned property on the street. Recently this has changed.

Already announced speculative sub-divisions constitute a land area as large as the Brandywine Battlefield Park.

Most of these projects have two things in common – the sellers either do not live in Chadds Ford, or are about to leave the township on the one hand, and there is a general insensitivity on the part of the builders to the historic beauty of the street on the other.

Basically people outside the township, and the builders, are profiting while lowering the property values of those who remain.

I urge your overwhelming support of this ordinance.

Although it is not enough, it will do a small way to help preserve the property values of the majority of the people in the township for the long run
