Inappropriate Behavior Surrounding Election

The inappropriate behavior surrounding the recent Chadds Ford Civic Association (CFCA) election is befuddling.   The question to be asked is why would a small group of the people (certainly not all the directors) actually plan to do things that make a community association less representative of the community.    This type of strange behavior started prior to the activities that took place the day of the general election, culminating the night of the civic association meeting.   It is now even more ironic that some members of the community were prohibited from running because dues had not been paid by October 15th; this date and policy is nowhere to be seen in the association by-laws.

As I democrat, I ran along with others to lend a bi-partisan nature to an association which at times has not lived up to the non-partisan statements written in the by-laws.   One need to go no further than the newsletter of the organization to see the partisan nature of conveniently listing only Republican office holders.  It seemed like it was time to get more diversity into the organization.    More depth and breadth within the community and the CFCA could only be a good thing.

The results of the CFCA election cannot stand and I am in agreement with the Chadds Ford Post editorial that calls for those directors that participated in a process to "rig" the election to immediately remove themselves from the Board.   At that time, I would hope that the remaining members of the board would reach out to the Chadds Ford Democratic Committee to work in a bi-partisan nature to reform the by-laws in a manner to ensure broad representation in the community so that all voices of the community are represented as voting members of the board.  Nobody of a serious nature could be against an inclusive association.

I would recommend that this be done so that a new election could be held within 60 days.   One other modest recommendation for the association would be to vote by secret ballot.   The results might be surprising should it be handled in such a manner.
