My name is Nick DiGregory and I am the Democratic candidate for the 160th legislative district in Pennsylvania. I was born in Philadelphia and graduated from Collingdale High School in Collingdale, PA. I attended East Stroudsburg University where I earned a Bachelor’s degree in social studies education. I later attended West Chester University earned a Master’s degree in history. I earned a second Master’s degree in the science of instruction from Drexel University. While in graduate school I was inducted into Phi Alpha Theta, a History Honor Society. I have also been listed in the U.S. Achievement Academy as an All American Scholar. I was a long time high school history teacher and administrator in the Delsea Regional High School district in Franklinville, NJ. As a social studies teacher, I taught both middle and high school students. As an administrator, I served as the instructional supervisor for the social studies, English, fine and performing arts, world language, and business departments. As a result of my work in education, I have been listed in Who's Who Among America's Teachers and Who's Who in American Education. I left public education several years ago to work in the private sector. Currently, I work for a New Jersey based company that specializes in professional development for social studies educators. I entered this race as a concerned citizen who believes that the voters of the 160th legislative district should have the ability to vote for a Democrat. My opponent has run unopposed twice during his tenure as our state representative. As someone who has studied and taught US history and the founding of our nation, I believe that in a democracy the citizens should be given choices. Whenever possible, I also believe that concerned citizens have an obligation to be active in their communities, just as the Founders of our nation would want them to do. I take great inspiration from the Founders’ example and I believe that if all public officials truly understood the Founders’ mission, government would be the better for it. As a candidate, I am most concerned about the economy, unemployment, taxes, education, government reform, and healthcare. I believe we need common sense approach to all of these problems. I believe to solve these and other problems; stakeholders need to come together in the interest of solving these problems. Politics as usual and special interests have too long gridlocked government in Pennsylvania. As a novice public servant I hold no allegiance to any special interest group or lobbyists. I am completely independent and will act on behalf of the citizens of Pennsylvania and the 160th legislative district. Our current representative has been a part of the status quo and has a vested interest in maintaining this situation. It is time to elect new representatives who can and will bring a new vision to state government. I currently reside in Aston, PA and have done so since 2001. I live with my three teenage children, all of whom currently attend the Penn Delco schools. My oldest daughter will be attending Penn State in the fall. Recently, I served four years as the president of the Darley Swim Club in Claymont, DE. I have also coached my daughter and my son’s intramural soccer teams here in Aston, PA. |
