LENTZ RAISES OVER $250,000
Unofficial reports have Lentz well ahead of Meehan
SWARTHMORE, PA – Representative Bryan R. Lentz has raised over a quarter of a million dollars prior to officially announcing his campaign for Congress in Pennsylvania’s 7th District. PA2010.com reported this afternoon that likely Republican congressional nominee Pat Meehan had only raised $200,000. If that report is accurate, Lentz raised significantly more than Meehan, even though Meehan has been campaigning for office for more than a year and had already conducted extensive fundraising before he quit the race for Governor.
“I am genuinely humbled by the tremendous outpouring of encouragement and support that I have already received,” said Lentz. “I cannot thank people enough for the trust and confidence that they have already placed in me. Together we can change Washington and bring real reform to our federal government.”
The financial support was collected from a strong grassroots network of over 380 contributors and included an event hosted by some of the soldiers who Lentz commanded while serving in Iraq. Among the list of Lentz’s early endorsers are elected officials from large Democratic municipalities such as Marple, Radnor and Nether Providence Townships as well as prominent officials like Media Mayor Bob McMahon, Media Council President Frank Daly and Lansdowne Mayor Jayne Young. Lentz will report over two hundred thousand dollars on his September 30th FEC filing and the two hundred and fifty thousand figure includes money raised through October 6th.
This combination of strong financial support and key endorsements is an impressive show of early strength in what is sure to be one of the most closely watched House races in the country next year. Lentz has already built a top-flight campaign team that spearheaded the victories of, among others, Governor Rendell, Congressman Joe Sestak, and Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter. He plans to formally announce his candidacy in the near future.
Bryan Lentz is a former U.S. Army Ranger and Iraq war veteran who also served overseas in the Sinai Peninsula and Bosnia. He was awarded both the Bronze Star for Service and the War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal for his service.
In civilian life, Lentz served six years as a prosecutor with the District Attorney’s office, where he prosecuted violent crime. He is currently serving in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, and he lives in Swarthmore with his wife Jennifer and their son Thomas.
