On April 20, 2009, the Delaware County Times had two articles that feature candidate for Judge of the Court of Common Pleas

Nancy Rhoads Koons.

The first, copied below, compares Nancy to her opponent in the race, illustrating the disparity between the candidates.  Nancy's trial experience has been in both state and federal courts for over twenty-five years.  Linda's trial experience consists of acting as a custody conciliator from 1996-1999.

Interestingly, here is reaction to the article from a Daily Times reader:

" Great article Daily Times.

As for the candidates referenced herein, Please! 25 years of trial experience (plaintiff and defendant) throughout PA and other states AND judge pro tem VERSUS NO...I repeat NO trial experience anywhere and a custody coordinator. This is a no-brainer! The Republicans are really stretching this time. Our Court of Common Pleas is NOT the place where one learns how the law works. This is not 3rd year law school and a mock trial event. This is our Court of Common Pleas. One must EARN the right to wear the robe while learning the court/judiciary through actual trial experience...before the court not while sitting on it. One does not earn the right to be on the court simply because she helped with the court budget. These are NOT the qualities of a future judge, but that of an accountant or comptroller. Being given the honor of serving our judicial system should not be taken so lightly. This is not a position that lends itself to one learning trial practice while sitting on the bench. Nancy Rhodes Koons is the hands-down candidate here. "

The second article, copied below, is Nancy's stated position on the rising mortgage foreclose rate in Delaware County, a concern shared by our great Congressman Joe Sestak.  Congressman Sestak, in fact, supports the implementation of the Mortgage Foreclosure Diversion Program, advocated by Nancy.  The President Judge of the Court of Common Pleas disagrees, however, claiming that the Court is "not willing to interpose the judiciary in any system short of a formal court action".

Again, another interesting comment from a Daily Times reader:

" Great job Nancy Rhoads-Koons. Finally, someone who is looking out for the taxpayers and citizens of Delaware County. Why has it taken the current Council and Sheriff McGinn over 4 months to try to figure out ways to combat this problem? Four months and nothing has been implemented to date. Wow! It took the same group less time to figure out where to place the casino and soccer field in Chester. This is a disgrace. Further, I am surprised at the President Judge's comments. These comments represent the exact reason we need a change in the thinking in the council and judiciary in Delaware County. Even federal courts have revised mortgage agreements with people in bankruptcy; however, the President Judge in Delaware County feels that he should not even consider something which could help struggling homeowners....short of bankruptcy, I guess. Ugh! "
